We Are Loved

“We Are Loved” is a collection of songs about God’s wonderful creation, taking care of the earth, the gift of music, the Australian Aboriginal culture and 'oneness with nature'.

The song “Music Can Do That” is dedicated to Kathleen Charlton, who started Carmel on her musical journey. “Mas Alla” (Beyond) written by Kike Santander is a beautiful song that Carmel sings in Spanish.

“Warlpiri Woman” was co-written with Lindsay Evans.

“Pelican” (Where the Pelican Builds) is a poem by Mary Hannay Foott, arranged to music by Carmel.

“One Solitary Life”, a poem by James Allen Francis arranged to music by Carmel.

All other tracks were written by Carmel.

There is a bonus DVD called “One Solitary Life” included in the album.

The eleven songs were brought to life with fine arrangements by Andy James Court.

Anzac Cove

After reading the beautiful poems in Paul de Pierres "Jottings and Fragments, Carmel was particularly moved by the words of "Anzac Cove" and "Farmer's Farewell". She enjoyed the process of arranging them to music and finally recording them.

In this Centenary of Gallipoli "Anzac Cove" is a special song.  Paul was able to visit Gallipoli in 1997 and wrote the poem after the Anzac Day Service.

"....... I've gazed in awe back down the range, tried to grasp what they attained. Did they really leave a mark - was it just to large a task.................."

"Their investment never dies. It's there in young backpacker's eye

Where brave Aussie heart may roam, they owe a debt at Anzac Cove."

Dreaming Still - 2007

Dreaming Still is a reflective and inspiring mixture of songs and poetry with music and vocals by Carmel, with lyrics and spoken word by writer and poet Gwen Atkinson.

Both are highly accomplished artists in their respective fields and this finely arranged collection, touches a variety of aspects of the human experience. It guarantees to be appreciated by many people.

“I Rode on the Wings of an Angel” has an ethereal quality as Carmel’s voice soars alongside the cello and some fine whistle playing by John Ralph.

This is followed by the poem “Love at Leisure” and the “Road to Kokoda”.  The latter is a heartfelt and first-hand account of heroism and sacrifice in Work War 11.  Gwen’s first husband was killed in action and never got to see his new-born son.

Carmel’s arrangement of “Dreaming Still” reflects the essence of the CD.  At 92 years young, Gwen continues to be actively creative.  She is an inspiration of what can be achieved later in life with a positive outlook.  “Conquer its heart, bend its will, I am the dreamer, dreaming still”
