MP3  LYRICS

Acknowledgements:

After reading the beautiful poems in Paul de Pierres "Jottings and Fragments,
Carmel was particularly moved by the words of "Anzac Cove" and "Farmer's
Farewell". She enjoyed the process of arranging them to music and finally
recording them.

In this Centenary of Gallipoli "Anzac Cove" is a special song. Paul was able to
visit Gallipoli in 1997 and wrote the poem after the Anzac Day Service.

ANZAC COVE

I’ve seen the beach at Anzac Cove – the ragged hills that rise
Amazed I’ve scaled the treacherous heights to honour those who came to fight
Gazed in awe back down the range, tried to grasp what they attained
Did they really leave a mark – was it just too large a task?
Did they really leave a mark?
V.2
Their efforts now could seem in vain – alas their aim was never gained
But I fancy much was won – by our Anzac fighting sons
Their investment never dies. It’s there in young backpacker’s eyes.
Where brave Aussie hearts may roam, they owe a debt at Anzac Cove

Instrumental …………………………….
I’ve gazed in awe back down the range
Tried to grasp what they attained oo

Repeat V.2

Where brave Aussie hearts may roam, they owe a debt at Anzac Cove
Where brave Aussie hearts may roam, they owe a debt At Anzac Cove

FARMER'S FAREWELL

The time has come for parting – and it comes to everyone.
So here’s my wish to you my mates – before the setting sun.
May your days of work be useful – until your span is done.
But mixed in with the worthwhile feats – a modicum of fun M mm

When the weaners break for cover and the ute can’t block their way
And your language colour deepens – may the kelpie save the day.
And when your crop is thirsty – ‘neath that old sun’s ray,

May “Hughie” send her down to you and make the season pay, Mm mm
Life’s a race, there is no doubt, which all of us must run

Against the odds, all the way, until you know you’ve won.
When they call the card up yonder, for that final sprint for home
May your fav-rite draw the rails and the Devil’s Neddy” roam!

And when you reach St. Peter – and yer have to put yer case,
May yer misdemeanours vanish there and sink without a trace! Mm mm
And when the says “ACCEPTED” I hope you’ll see my face,

And mates we’ll be – again my friends – as in this human race.
Farewell to you my friends – au’voir the bidding’s done.

Please try to beat a ploughshare out of each and every gun. Mm mm
Life’s a race, there is no doubt, which all of us must run
Against the odds, all the way, until you know you’ve won.
Goodbye to you my friends – adieu to everyone,

I’d love to stay here with you but my journey has begun.
I’d love to stay here with you but my journey ……. has begun.
